THOSE WE SERVE

Without a doubt, there is a silent epidemic in our nation: young men and women living under private or public programs reaching adulthood without the resources they need to succeed. They look like normal healthy adults, but at night you may find them sleeping in their car or on a friend's couch.  Without adequate resources, high rates of crime, drug use, homelessness, suicide, and emotional trauma are often the result.  Where do they go for help? Who hears their crying when they are alone?

So you think you know me?   I am ...

  • more likely to live well below the poverty level—59% of us do.
  • 12 times less likely to earn a college degree, only 2% of us do.
  • likely to be arrested for a crime, 35% of us will be.
  • likely to have a child, 32% of us do, after all 3% of us already have a child now in foster care.
  • more likely to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder than an U.S. soldier who has gone to war, 6 times more likely to suffer than the general population
  • 17 times more likely to commit suicide than my peers.
