Do you have a compassionate heart?

Could you teach and give guidance on life skills?

Are you a good listener?

Would you like to share your experiences to help others?

THE MENTOR ROLE

The purpose of the mentor program is to connect the residents with members of the community.  These connections will become a support system to help the young women grow and sustain them both now and into the future.

The mentors will provide guidance and encouragement to their mentee so that she will develop the life skills she needs for interdependent living.  The expectations of the mentor are to:

  • Commit to meet with the young woman regularly
  • Establish trust and maintain confidentiality
  • Provide guidance and encouragement
  • Identify learning opportunities for the mentee
  • Expose her to new ideas
  • Provide helpful resources
  • Share personal experiences and perspectives

MENTOR PROGRAM MODEL

"A cord of three strands is not easily broken."  Ecclessiastes 4:12

There is a need for three levels of mentors for each young woman:  Professional supporter, big supporter, and sister supporter.  The professional supporter will give guidance on schooling, careers and the working world.  The big sister supporter will provide friendship and a confidant.  The wise owl supporter will provide insight to life lessons they have learned through their experiences.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A MENTOR?

We would love to hear from you regarding your desire to partner with us in providing life-sustaining relationships for one of the young women participating in our program. Please contact us via email or phone about how you can get plugged in.  In the meantime, feel free to review our "Mentor Packet" that is used as part of the training and orientation process.
